Manchester LC are the Champions of NTPSA 50B Division
May 18,
2008 was the day that Manchester LC scratched and clawed it's
way to the championship of the NTPSA 50B Division.
LC
finished the season in 4th place on May 4 with a 1-0 loss from
the 1st place Big Dawgs but had enough points to make the
playoffs.
The
playoffs began the next week (May
11). This was LC's chance for revenge against the Big Dawgs and this
time staged a 1-0 nail biter to knock off the #1 seed! It
was truly a great team effort. All 23 roster players were
exhausted when the smoke cleared.
With the
number 2 seed Santos beating the number 3 seed Tornado (4-1),
the stage was set for the Championship Game against Manchester
LC on May 18.
The
Championship game
between Manchester LC and Santos was a stalemate until the 21st minute when a great cross from
Colin Scot found John Sheppard at the far post for a perfect
header in the corner of the goal (see the Bundesliga highlight
reels).
A few minutes later, veteran Armin Gonzalez broke loose in the box
and was about to score when a fullback sent him for a full flip,
landing on his back. Armin wasn't up to taking the PK so another
veteran, Gino Krenzel, blasted the PK into the left corner for a
2-0 lead.
The game
winner came on a second Santos foul in the box, this time
against John Sheppard. Richard Mungioli scored on the PK by freezing the keeper and
putting the ball out of reach to the right making the score at half time, 3-0.
Santos
got a goal quickly in the second half only to be countered by
another Santos foul in the box (Armin again). This PK was
masterfully played by the player of the game, Colin Scot.
Santos
managed one more goal but it was too little to late. The crusty
old veterans of Manchester LC had a great finish to an
incredible season. We'll be talking about this one for years to
come.
Congratulations Manchester LC !!!

ManchesterSC HQ - McKinney, Texas - Before any soccer match, there is an air of aniticipation and expectation even drama. It makes little difference whether it's the National, Professional or a local Sunday league. The season begins with dreaded practices, aches and pains of scrimmages, and the dawning of the ManchesterSC uniform because you made the team.
Players are psyching themselves up; mentally and physically, managers are giving last minute thoughts to their game plan, fans are sizing up the opposition and discussing the season and as to so far as predicting the final score of the matches.
To all the Members of the Manchester Soccer Club, on behalf of the entire Board of Directors and the Executive Committee, we wish every ManchesterSC team and their spectators a very safe and victorious Spring season.

President, ManchesterSC
